About the Lab
The iPad Lab was developed and implemented in 2016 and currently caters to 11 different classes with a total of 177 students! The Lab is designed to offer students another opportunity for music outside of the traditional, classical music setting. There are some students who will not find any interest in a traditional setting such as band, chorus, or orchestra so creating an environment where students can explore other facets of music is extremely valuable. We cover topics such as composition, improvisation, sampling, music production, mixing, and recording. None of this would be possible without the help of such amazing administrators, colleagues and students!
About the Teachers
Paul Shim
Hello! I am in my second year teaching here at SMS. In addition to teaching The Lab, I teach sixth and seventh grade general music as well. I am very passionate and proud of the opportunities we provide the sixth graders. The Lab is a very unique environment to be creative and push the limits of what students can do. When I’m not teaching I enjoy photography, cooking, and disc golf!
Timothy Polhemus
Hello! I am in my second year teaching here at SMS, but my sixth year in New Milford Public Schools! In addition to teaching The Lab, I teach sixth grade band and sixth and seventh grade general music as well. I am so happy that I can share my love of music with so many students here at SMS! There are many musical opportunities for our students at SMS so there is always something musical a student can enjoy. When I am not working I enjoy rock climbing, snowboarding, and watching movies!
